Operation Community Kindness

Background: In late 2008, Spotlight Richmond approached PUNCH with an endeavor dedicated to making a positive impact on our community through acts of kindness. They called it Operation Community Kindness. Our role in getting the message out, and helping to raise money, was to design and produce a one-of-a-kind calendar.

Challenge: With 12 months dedicated to 12 different non-profits, it took much time and effort to define the order of the causes, note all important dates, include all the correct logos, and ensure the overall satisfaction of all parties involved.

Execution: The Operation Community Kindness calendar, titled “12 ways to put the heart in Richmond,” was truly a team effort. Designers were given the opportunity to select a cause that was important to them and design a page that represented the event that cause held. This included:

• The Richmond Folk Festival
• The Distinguished Leadership Awards Dinner, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond
• Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k
• Vibefest, Positive Vibe Café
• Another NOT the World’s Largest Tea Party, Sweet Monday
• LemonAid, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield
• 20th Anniversary Big Brothers Big Sisters Duck Race, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond & Tri-Cities
• Chick-fil-A Charity Dodgeball Tournament, Chick-fil-A
• 43rd Street Festival of the Arts, Freedom House
• Faison’s Amazin’ Pumpkin Palooza, Faison School for Autism
• The Giving Heart Thanksgiving Feast
• The Chair Affair, Embrace Richmond

Impact: The final product was a unique calendar that not only highlighted the talents of PUNCH, but also captured the spirit of each non-profit’s event. In addition to the calendar, which was met with great eagerness from the community, PUNCH designed the Operation Community Kindness logo and Web site.

All PUNCH time devoted to the organization, design, and production of the calendar was donated free of charge to Spotlight Richmond.
