Salisbury Smackdown 2007
What could be more satisfying at the end of a long day of creating cutting edge design than smacking the fuzz off of a tennis ball? Why, smacking the fuzz off a few with your fellow office mates! The folks at PUNCH know great design and they also know how to have a great time. On Friday, April 20, most of the staff assembled at Salisbury Country Club for the first ever tennis extravaganza. We tried to be civilized, but, things took a turn towards the WWF when the event got dubbed the “Salisbury Smackdown.” After that, it wasn’t long before everyone picked nicknames. Not names like Steffi, Martina, and Venus either. We’re talking “Buzzsaw Avenger,” “Armbreaker,” and “Slammin SL.”
Thankfully, our skill really doesn’t lend itself to doing anything more than talking a big game. Still, we huffed and puffed our way through a mean game of round robin. Winners did emerge: Matt and Mary can claim bragging rights at least until the next time. A special “Accident Prone” award was given to Charlie who attacked each ball like it was a marauding pirate bent on kidnapping his kids. He also could have won the “most balls hit onto golf course” award.
In the end, the whole event proved to be a great team builder and a lot of fun. Check out our photo and the invitation that Sarah Shannon whipped up. We think you’ll be amused. Heaven knows we are.
