PUNCH Surprise
PUNCH, a full-service creative firm located in Richmond, recently packed more fun into the Richmond Sports Backers’ NTELOS 8k with their “PUNCH Surprise.” On November 12, 2005, the whole staff of PUNCH set up a cheering station that included exuberant employees, silly string, and last, but not least, a wrestling ring.
“Historically, the NTELOS 8k has taken a backseat to the SunTrust Richmond Marathon in the eyes of many local runners,” stated Scott Schricker, marketing director for the Richmond Sports Backers. “We wanted to increase the excitement level of the race and create a buzz surrounding the event by introducing a new element to the 8k. We set this task to our design firm, PUNCH, and they followed through with quite a successful performance: the PUNCH Surprise.”
Arranged by PUNCH, local wrestling group, Richmond Lucha Libres, set up their ring along the 8k race course and put on quite a show for the passing walkers and runners. Some 8k participants took photos, some stopped to cheer the wrestlers on, and some just kept on going with a smile on their face. The enthusiastic cheers of the PUNCH staff also supported the walkers and runners.
“[Knocking the runners’ socks off with something they would never expect to see on a race course] proved to be a formidable task while working within the confines of the race,” stated Charlie Connell, managing partner of PUNCH. “The able minds of PUNCH, led by Jennifer Rosko, created an event that certainly fit the bill. Lucha Libres put on a show that will be remembered by all, leaving PUNCH with another problem to solve — how to outdo it in 2006.”
