Charlie Connell Joins ART 180 Board of Trustees

PUNCH has been a long-time supporter of ART 180 and its programming that serves the youth in the Richmond community. Now, PUNCH’s managing partner, Charlie Connell, will be joining the board of trustees of this unique organization. His term will last two years and he will sit on the communications committee and focus his attention on building professional relationships and personal awareness of the program.

Connell was part of the original steering committee that created the nonprofit organization in 1998. He organized the group’s first two community projects—interior murals at Boys & Girls Clubs through Sportsbackers—and designed its first Web site. He says, “I have been fortunate enough to be involved with ART 180 since its inception and continue to be impressed with what the organization has become. The energy and passion that the ART 180 organization and staff bring to its programs is reflected in the young artists who participate. These young people are given a voice in the community though art and the results are inspiring. I am looking forward to sharing their enthusiasm and contributing to the ART 180 mission.”

ART 180’s work with young people aims to turn lives and communities around 180 degrees. They create and provide art-related programs for young people living in challenging circumstances, encouraging personal and community change through self-expression. Professional artists and volunteers work with youth after school. Each program grows from the needs and interests of the group of young people being served. Past projects have included:  billboards, art exhibits, poetry readings, CDs, and DVDs. For more information about this wonderful organization, please log onto www.art180.org.
