Your Face is Your Brand

Your face is your brand. I have long debated the issue of why it is important to show your picture with your bio. And I always win the debate.
It’s human nature for people to like looking at other people. If you are unsure, check out the success of MySpace, Facebook, and the reality TV craze. Scientific research has been done about how important faces are for babies to look at. The importance doesn’t end in infancy, but rather deepens as we grow. We get untold information from looking at another human face and we don’t even realize how much we know about another comes to us indirectly from just looking at his or her face.
It’s also a fact that potential clients want to look at you and feel that they know you before they meet you. I like to use our Web site as a perfect example of what I mean. We have shown the faces of PUNCH since it’s inception. Shortly after we launched our site, lots of other service firms were quick to follow suit. It makes sense. Just about every person that I meet who walks into our office, immediately knows who I am. They know what I like and even the sports I play and the hobbies that I have. I believe it makes them feel more comfortable with me.
I remember when four-color printing turned a corner, and became affordable. Realtors started putting their pictures on their business cards. Today, almost 20 years later, you rarely ever see realtor’s business card without a picture. That’s no accident. For people in direct sales, in an industry where personal connections are of ultimate importance, their faces ARE their business cards and they know it.
With media changing so rapidly, nothing is more impressive or telling than your face. With clients, potential clients, colleagues, and the competition looking at your face, and getting untold amounts of information about you, it’s really important to ensure your end product is the best you can make it. Trust me, it’s worth the effort.
Lee Kallman, who owns Happy Face Photography, agrees. He says, “People like to look at faces because it’s the ultimate storyteller. With just a quick glance at someone’s face, you’ll learn a lot about their mood, feelings, and response to any current stimuli.”
Your business and your brand are deserving of the best. Put your best face forward and reap the rewards!
