Who’s a TOUGH MUDDER?
I’m hoping I’m one. No, I’m counting on being one!
On October 22, I’ll be put to the test. My husband and I signed up to compete in the Tough Mudder race at Wintergreen.
You may be asking, Erin, why is this race so different? You participate in a lot of races. Heck, you ran the ½ marathon when you were 3 months pregnant. You had a baby. You did a 5k mud run this summer. You’ve survived working this long at PUNCH. Chill out, it’s no biggie. Stop wasting my time with this blog.
And, I’m here to say, hold on, I have good reason to be kinda freaking out…Ignore the fact that I signed myself up for this.
The race is 9 miles, with an elevation gain of 1250 ft. There are 25 obstacles dispersed throughout those 9 miles. Here’s just a sampling of those obstacles:
- Dragging a log up a ski slope, then running back down without eating…dirt.
- Crawling through tunnels. That are in the water. In October. In the mountains. Brrrrr.
- Climbing all sorts of walls and cargo nets.
- Monkey bars. Doesn’t sound too bad? Wait, they’re over water and they’ve been greased.

My saving graces will be my husband—there’s no way he’s leaving me behind…right?—and our team, made up of members from Crossfit Full Circle, our crossfit gym. Hopefully we can all help each other through the tough obstacles and keep each other’s spirits high when the going gets TOUGH. AND MUDDY.
Ok, I promise to check back in and let you know whether I survived. And tell you how many team members it took to shove me over the walls.
Wish me luck.
Please.
