Using Social Media for Social Good
![]()
There are so many great ideas and uses that have blossomed out of emerging media that it is sometimes difficult to keep up. One trend that I love is the Summer of Social Good that Mashable (an emerging media guide) has begun. The basic concept is to promote as much social good through the use of social media as possible throughout the summer.
Mashable is sponsoring Summer of Social Good and it is directly benefiting four charities, The Humane Society of the United States, World Wildlife Federation, Oxfam America and Livestrong. However, as things often go in the emerging media world, this concept has gone viral and many other companies are finding ways to contribute to the social good. (See next week’s blog for more on companies contributing to the social good.)
So, why has this been successful virally? People love to get behind a good cause. It makes us happy to work together towards the common good. This is a great lesson for any business seeking to use emerging media tools because they provide a perfect platform to share the ways your business gives back to the community.
Any business can utilize social media outlets to share their charitable work. There are multiple benefits that can be realized from such an outreach program.
+ Your clients can gain a better understanding of your company values by allowing them to see what is important to your organization.
+ You can gain additional support for your selected charity by helping to spread their message and good work.
+ You can actively engage people with your company in a meaningful way.
+ You can strengthen your business relationships as clients invest in your company culture.
Supporting non-profit work in Richmond is an important part of the PUNCH culture and we are thrilled to help contribute to the good work of many great companies in Richmond.
