Twitter for Business

image

It is Week 2 in Summer Camp—emerging media style.

This week we are going to apply the skills we learned in Twitter Basics and use them for business.

Twitter is a great platform choice to use for business for several reasons:

1. You can follow anyone you want who is on Twitter.

2. You are limited to 140 characters so you have a small commitment in terms of reading and writing.

3. You can reach a large number of people with your message.

4. Your message can be shared virally when followers “retweet” your message to their networks.

5. You can target specific interests, locations, topics, and/or industries of people to follow.

Prior to using Twitter for your business, I’d recommend you give it a try on a personal account to gain an understanding of how it works without the pressure of representing your brand.

Any uses for emerging media should be part of your strategic plan for your company.  Know where you want to go and then utilize the tools to help you get there.

Twitter for Business Possibilities

+ Listen and Learn: Utilize searches to hear what people are saying about your industry and your brand

+ Share: Knowledge about your industry shows credibility

+ Promote: Tell people about your product or service in a meaningful way

+ Build Relationships: Take the time to learn about people who are following you and engage them in discussions

+ Gain Media Attention: Follow media outlets and build relationships by responding to their tweets when you can add value

+ Engage: Actively participate in Twitter on a regular basis (for some that means 15 tweets+ a day, for others it could be 5 to 10 tweets a week)

I hope to see you all out there tweeting away and using this great platform as one way to reach out and engage with your audience. Be sure to let me know you’ve joined in the conversations by following me @theartofimpact.

See you in Twitterville!
