The buzz about Zappos

If you’ve spent any time checking out Twitter or Facebook for your business, you’ve probably heard the buzz about Zappos and how they are doing such a great job using emerging media to build the greatest online shoe store.

I was pretty excited to see this month’s Inc. magazine with Tony Hsieh, Zappos’s CEO, on the cover. It was a good article giving insight behind this a company that is using all of the emerging media options to market their company. Go here for the full article: http://www.inc.com/ss/how-to-make-customers-love-you#0.  The article talks about what Zappos is doing to make their clients happy. They are doing a lot of things right and much of it has to do company culture.  They encourage their employees to be themselves and to take initiative to solve problems and make their clients happy.

As a relatively new hire here at PUNCH, one of the things I’ve been most impressed with is the company culture.  We are encouraged to share our outside interests here.  Weekly meetings give everyone a chance to debrief what is going on in their lives, new charity events that we can participate in, and the latest PUNCH celebrations. Giving back to the Richmond community is a huge part of our culture. What I love about it is that we are all encouraged to give back in the ways that we choose.

While this company culture thing may not always be quantitative on the books for our accountants, I believe it is a huge part of who we are and why people love to work with us. It is certainly a big part of what is working for Zappos. Oh, and in case you are still wondering if emerging media is worth your time…I bought a pair of shoes at on Zappos this weekend, after hearing all the buzz!
