Super Moms to the Rescue!

Kelly was the first in our office to come across the Super Mom contest sponsored by www.richmondmom.com. Ever the competitive one, she asked me to look into the rules and see what was involved with entering. (There were great prizes!) After poking around a while, I discovered two challenges: first that the deadline was in about a week and second that I was limited to a 50-word application! I think my first draft had three times the limit. I pondered Super Man. He was described as “faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive!” That’s how and when I decided to go with a super hero styled list of “super powers” for Kelly.

I ran the idea by her and she immediately saw the potential for Matt’s artistic talent to be used. Things moved very fast with the three of us talking about a caricature and before I knew it, four of us were to be entered into the contest—with Matt’s artwork adding depth to my paltry 50-word limit. Kelly, Kendall, Amy, and I enjoyed feeling like superheroes for a few days.

Sadly, none of us were winners, but we did get four applications submitted on time and ours were the only ones that included artwork. You can read about the grand winner, Megan Blake and her non-profit organization, by logging onto Richmond Mom’s Web site. She is truly a supermom!
