Are you ready for Web 3.0?
Just when I thought I was getting a handle of Web 2.0, along comes Web 3.0!
![]()
Wikipedia describes Web 2.0 as being “characterized as facilitating communication, information sharing, interoperability, and collaboration on the World Wide Web.” One major effect of this is the huge surge in social networking and information sites we are currently seeing.
So if Web 1.0 is about putting information into a central place for me to find, and Web 2.0 is about sharing the information with my networks, what does Web 3.0 have in store? How about having information and friends recommended to you based upon the interests you’re already following?
We will be able to learn about news we want to learn about without even having to search for it ourselves. This is all just being created, so don’t expect to see it too much just yet. However, one site that is leading the way is Twine. This is taking the concept of book marking sites such as Digg and Delicious to a new level.
Twine describes itself as a “new way to collect content and connect with people who share your interests.” Subjects are intertwined together based on topic and you are given recommendations of things that may be relevant to you based upon your existing interests.
As a person who has an iPhone or a laptop as a permanently attached accessory, I am always eager to learn what is coming next. Come learn more with me every Thursday at Coffee with Kendall, 9:30 am at Ellwood’s Coffee. We will be exploring emerging media for business each week.
